Imagine a world without theater, music, dance, visual arts, books or the support of our essential cultural institutions. Unfortunately, the current political climate has awakened us all to the possibility that we may be standing at the threshold of what could become be a dark, abysmal and soulless landscape. Against that backdrop, today, I am launching my new blog to champion the arts, the value and contributions of artists, and the urgency of cultivating diverse audiences.
For more than 30 years, I have created programs, built alliances and developed partnerships that have sold-out venues and contributed more than $20-million dollars to dance, theater and arts organizations. Through my company, Walker International Communications Group, we’ve also
cultivated new generations of cultural ambassadors who now see the arts as a necessary element for their lives. Most important, our work has proven that the arts are a bridge for cultivating understanding, fostering dialogue, bridging divides and opening the door for people to share a transformative experience.
As author of the best-selling book on cultivating diverse audiences, a university professor, lecturer and an international expert in this field, I am writing to urge you to join me in this endeavor. I invite you to read my weekly blog and, if you find it to be of value, share it with others. I encourage you to reaffirm your commitment to champion the arts. And I ask that you please dialogue about the arts with someone outside of your circle of colleagues and friends, as a reminder of its potential to unite and empower us to resist division, tyranny or despair.
Thank you in advance for accepting this invitation,
Donna Walker-Kuhne
